Feast of Mary

As the mother of Jesus and the premiere saint, the mystery of the life of Mary is celebrated on many different days, exploring the depth of her life and her commitment to God.

Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception

The solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day of Obligation) celebrates the dogma that Mary was conceived without original sin in view of the merits of Jesus Christ. This feast is celebrated on December 8.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Blessed Juan Diego as an Aztec Princess in 1531, near present day Mexico City. Her message was one of love, compassion and hospitality. She continues to perform miracles, both at her shrine and wherever her name is invoked. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of the Americas. This feast is celebrated on December 12.

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (Holy Day of Obligation), was accorded to Mary during the Council of Ephesus in 413. It celebrates the fact that Jesus, although fully human in nature, was a divine person. Therefore, Mary was not just the mother of Jesus, but the Mother of God. This feast is celebrated on January 1.

Feast of The Annunciation

On the feast of the Annunciation, we celebrate the moment when Mary received the message from the Angel Gabriel that she would conceive from the Holy Spirit and bear a Son, Jesus (Luke 1:26-38). This feast is celebrated on March 25.

Feast of The Visitation

Mary, having heard that her cousin Elizabeth had conceived as well, left her home to spend three months with Elizabeth. When she arrived, Mary sang her song of praise, known as the Canticle of Mary of Magnificat (Luke 1: 39-56). This feast is celebrated on May 31.

Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The solemnity of the Assumption (Holy Day of Obligation) celebrates the dogma that at the end of her life, Mary was taken to heaven, body and soul. This feast is celebrated on August 15.

Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The birth of Mary to Anna and Joachim is celebrated on September 8.
