BeFrienders

A Listening Presence

Have you ever wished you had someone to talk to who would listen--really listen--without offering advice or trying to change or fix your story? Many situations, both happy and sad, can leave us with stories to tell. Basilica BeFrienders are ready to listen.

BeFrienders are trained volunteers who provide a listening presence. Embodying the caring presence of God and the faith community, BeFrienders are called to listen to the sacred story of another.

Anyone who has a story to share, whether it be the birth of a child, a new marriage, new home, or illness, loneliness, loss, or job transition, may benefit from a BeFriender relationship. If you or someone you know has a story to share, contact Cathy at 612.317.3474.

Each morning God wakes me to hear, to listen as a disciple. The Lord God has opened my ear. – Isaiah 50:5

The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing, and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is the friend who cares. – Henri Nouwen-From Out of Solitude
