Giving Opportunities

Annual Stewardship Fund

Help continue our Liturgy, Learning and Life programs. Make a commitment to the Annual Stewardship Fund today. Pledging is your way of saying, yes, I have committed whole-heartedly to The Basilica of Saint Mary. And, it helps us determine dollars for much needed and valuable programs.

Seasonal Giving

Help us remember and celebrate spiritual traditions of the season.

Saint Vincent de Paul

Help serve and support our neighbors in need. Neighbors come to us every day for emotional and spiritual support, and basic things like shelter, food, shoes, and identification. St. Vincent de Paul Outreach needs volunteers from 9:00am-12:00pm, Tuesday through Thursday, to meet with guests.

When someone seeks help from the Basilica's St. Vincent de Paul Outreach, the guest is welcomed by volunteers and invited to have coffee and relax at a table. There is time for guests to talk or pray with volunteers while waiting for their one-to-one interviews. Then they speak to a volunteer advocate who listens, then tries to meet their needs. The goal is to provide a calm welcoming space where problems may be solved.

Advocates are often surprised to find that their gifts of time and discernment reap unexpected rewards. Says one: "It is a joy to listen to our guests and help them. I'm amazed at the faith, courage and strength of many who ask for help."

Do you have an open mind and a listening heart? Prayerfully consider becoming an Outreach advocate.

Basilica St. Vincent de Paul is an integral part of the Christian Life component at the Basilica. Through its many ministries, St. Vincent de Paul has opened doors to those in need through programs like:

  • Shoe Ministry
  • Outreach Ministry
  • Pathways Ministry

Basilica Centennial Campaign - Restoration & Renovation

For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord. Plans for your well-being, plans to give you a future full of hope. — Jeremiah 29:11

It takes patience and investment to maintain any building that is nearly 100 years old. Throughout the years, wear and tear on the Basilica building has presented maintenance challenges and preservation requirements. Past Capital Campaigns have provided for improvements to the Basilica facilities and enhanced our ability to carry out our mission in the city of Minneapolis.

Consider this: the generations of those who have shared their generosity in the past have provided for us today. In the same way, future generations rely on our generosity today. When we plan for the future and invest in the maintenance and care of the structure, we are really protecting the foundation of all that is the Basilica of Saint Mary.

Reverend Michael J. O’Connell Endowment Fund

Help provide a permanent source of funds for the care of our beautiful Basilica campus. The Basilica is a Minneapolis landmark, having been constructed from 1908 to 1915, well before most of the current downtown skyline. Named America's first basilica by Pope Pius XI in 1926, The Basilica of Saint Mary was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Finally, and most importantly, it is our parish, serving as the place of our worship and the home of our programs and services to the community.

The Endowment's History

In 1997 a group of committed friends and supporters, including both parishioners and members of the community at large, established an Endowment Fund at The Basilica. The endowment fund is increased through gifts of cash, stock, and the proceeds from estate gifts. In 2007, The Friends of The Basilica of Saint Mary Foundation was reactivated as a separate 501 c 3 supporting organization. Now known as The Basilica Landmark, they took on the capital fundraising responsibilty and management of The Basilica’s Endowment, now known as the Rev. Michael J. O’Connell Endowment Fund.
