Basilica School

The Basilica Grade School first opened as the Pro-Cathedral School in August of 1913. The school was closed 1975. Over ninety years after its doors first opened the school has remained a cherished part of our parish history. Thousands of students call the Basilica School their alma mater. Former students express affection for the sisters, diversity of students and the quality of education. Mary Ann Guthrie, class of 1971 agrees, calling the school a "magnificent place to learn."

Major renovation work on the Basilica will be needed in the next 5 years. Future plans include renovating the plumbing and restroom facilities, a new electrical system, and partial replacement of roof.

On evenings and weekends, the Basilica School is filled with parish children, teens and adults in  religion and faith formation offerings, and for parish ministries and meetings.  Weekdays and Saturday mornings, the Basilica School is currently leased to KIPP Stand Academy for 5th – 8th grade, a Minnesota public charter school.  KIPP (knowledge is power program) is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college prep public shools with a track record of serving low income inner city students for success in college and in life.  More than 80% of KIPP alumni have gone on to college.  Now in 19 states, 66 KIPP schools serve over 16,000 students nationwide.
